      I just bought this PC, but I’m not sure if it takes low profile cards or not. Suggestions to get the best hash rate? I’m looking to spend under $200.

        Take the $200 and buy FTC now while it’s cheap. Sell it when it gets to 1.2 (because it almost always drops at 1.2), go buy a video card with the profit, buy back the FTC when price drops. rinse & repeat. ;)

          I don’t have any extra money to speculate with right now. Spending it all on hardware to mine…

            before you dive into mining you need to do your homework.

            That computer has a low profile case. You will be quite limited with what you can purchase due to this (unless you use risers and leave the card hanging out)

            That computer has an unknown PSU inside. You need to find out your watts. Not the peak watts either…

              Referring to best card according to Tom’s Hardware for Hash/Watt ratio is a R9 270x. 142 watt draw chugging out at 563 kh! :) 3.9 hashes per watt.

                    Should be fine, there lays a chance you’ll fizzle it. Powersupplies when rated for a wattage also include a +/- operational percentage. Since no one powersupply actually holds up at exactly the stated watts. Next thing I’d fear is the temps.

                      The specs for that card say:

                      System Requirements
                      300W (or greater) power supply recommended

                      400W power supply (or greater) recommended for AMD CrossFire technology in dual mode

                      If my PSU is only 250 watts, I don’t want to risk frying it. Would I be safe getting this, and just lowering the intensity, or is it not even worth it? According to videocardbenchmark.net this card is nowhere close to the card you posted earlier, but in price there’s not much difference…

                        I was speaking in general price to performance to hash rate about the r9 270x. You’re out of luck when it comes to a computer of that size. Your best option is that 7750 if you want to hash, but really you’ll only be making like 3-5 FTC a day. The whole wattage envelope won’t ratio out your power bill when including all other parts.

                            It’d be great for gaming, but you’d never hit the hash rate an AMD will.

                              I would not risk any intense mining with a 250 watt power supply. Thats my opinion. You NEVER want to cut corners on the PSU. A failing psu can do many terrible things to a PC from nothing to frying anything

                                I guess that’s something I really don’t understand. The benchmark for that card is WAY higher than the one for the AMD I posted earlier. What makes the AMD ones so much better for hash rates?

                                  This one is cheaper than the one I posted earlier, and has a peak wattage of 75, but it’s also an AMD 7750. This should be the best of both worlds right? I will get a better hash rate, and not have to worry about blowing my PSU?

                                    Don’t take this the wrong way, but you need to do your research! nVidia cards are terrible for mining. They don’t operate in the same way (shaders, memory allocations and such), so trust, stick to Radeons. Also, the advice here is to deffo get a decent PSU, it will save you money in the long run. I run a rig with two cards and an 850w PSU, and that is barely acceptable. You’ll need at least a 450w to run one high end card as no PSU is 100% efficient. They aren’t that much more expensive!

                                        Your chassis is not meant for a large PSU. if you want to run this openrig style you can get almost anything. I dont know what your initial intentions were for buying the specific computer, but its quite terribly setup for mining.

                                            Well I got my video card in the mail, been mining for less than a week, and I’ve already earned over 10 feathercoins! Voltage and temperature are all under control. Now FTC just needs to rise to $12/coin for me to make my money back. ;)
