        Depends on the price. Id say the 7870 is probably a better option between the two tho.

            I bet the power consumption on the 7870 is better than 2x 5870s better kh/watt

              I have found that even the same type of GPU can vary in performance as well as vary by which manufacturer when mining Feathercoin (FTC). It would be good to get some figures now for various cards, especially with the recent updates by Ghostlander on NSGMiner.

              I understand that most work done by recent work done by Wolf on sgminer for Nicehash optimised the Neoscrypt kernel for AMD R9 280. Ghostlander appears to have tweaked the Neoscrypt kernel and optimised the miner as well.

              I have a few older AMD cards I have tested with SGminer, but not tried with NSGminer yet

              I have used R9 270 and R9 290 on Neoscrypt and Scrypt. Both run cooler on Neoscrypt probably because of the increased memory and “increased difficulty”.

              Set up was easier with NSGminer, Ghostlander has done a lot of work on making it easy to install. I am running it on straight, updated, Ubuntu 15.10 with great results. I’ve also tested on a full AMD specific install on 14.04 with similar results.

              Running on Linux

              neoscrypt -
              R9 290 - 500 kHash/s
              R9 270 -190 kHash/s

                @shermanchan13

                I’d go 7870.

                I’m getting these #s now:

                HD 6950 - 80 kHash/s
                HD 7950 - 380 kHash/s

                I’d estimate HD 7870 at around 200k, but I could be completely wrong. I was considering buying one myself just to find out.
