have you ever setup the wallet before? (is it possible you did and hit decline for network access?)

also did you try the 64 bit or 32 bit build (quite honestly i’m not sure when the 64 bit is needed they both run well desktops and servers, but the 32 bit builds of programs in general seem to have less compatibility issues)

Also when you are running it in the bottom right hand corner there are 3 icons the middle one indicates how many remote hosts you are connected to (if you move the mouse over it) is it showing anything? or are you even getting past the load screen?

@j_scheibel I have not declined network access and I know there is network access by looking at the console network activity screen en incoming connections (not zero).
It is the 64 bit version, might that be the problem?

Currently it seems like it is moving much faster, I am now only 6 weeks behind. Still very slow, but it seems like it is going faster now than it went earlier. I will just wait and see and update you guys.

But in any way, the syncing process is way too slow. maybe the problem is the 64bit version?

Hi and welcome to the forums. Happy Posting

There clearly is a problem syncing the wallet. I have like 5 other wallets and most of them take less than a day.

We are aware of this issue.

Please be honest and let me know what the issue is, whether you guys are working on it, and when and how you think it will get fixed. I am a patient man, just want to know where I stand.

We haven’t been dishonest at all. quite the opposite in-fact…We have explained to new users…many many times…that the main reason for the long sync time is the large amount of orphan chains We have to process on our blockchain. This is because Feathercoin was attacked in the very early days and even now we see people trying different things to get more money. It’s something we are working on and in the new version of the client, because of the way blocks are processed the sync time is greatly reduced.

Apologies if this is a daft question but this “damage” you mention. Is it possible to remove these orphans or un-orphan them?

This seems to be a recurring problem which I myself experience as I cannot run the latest wallet as my version of Mac OS is a year out of date.

If us relatively it literate users have problems negotiating this particular bugbear what chance is there for wider adoption. A super fast transaction time is pointless if it’s very problematic to manage your own wallet.
Secondly do these orphan chains have an impact at all on the transaction speed?
I’m imagining a windows registry type situation where there are all these branches going off in different directions until the number of branches gets so many the whole lots slows right down.

let me answer the 2nd thing first.
orphaned chains have no affect on anything once you are all synced up. (Regardless of the crypto currency) its just something that has to be negotiated through when bringing a new wallet up to date.

As for the speed of syncing a new wallet…
The wallet walks through data it gets from the peer to peer network as fast as it can, i suspect the only reason people are saying anything is they are watching it and waiting. honestly feathercoin syncs so much faster than bitcoin (from nothing/1st block) i don’t quite understand what people are noticing.

i personally didn’t notice this when i last had to do a full sync of feather coin (3 months ago?) maybe my machine and network are more beefy? but of course i let it go and did other things. either way it sounds like a work around for the wallet to more quickly work through these is already in the works. (nothing i’m involved in)

The Mac Wallet I can address. I’ll put some time in This week and I’ll upload a binary that will be compatible with previous versions of MacOS/OSX

In the next release of Feathercoin the way the blocks are handled and processed by the client is very different. So the speed increase we get is insane…I full sync will be done in 3 hours instead of 24+ hours.

I don’t have a real ETA for you guys but we are working on it.

Acidd. You’re a gent. That sounds great about the new version and thank you very much for taking the time to have a look at the Mac OS version.

                      Very helpful.
I hope you get sometime to enjoy yourself over the next few days as well.

                      All the best.

I did a full sync about three months ago and it took around five days so I understand what some newbies are complaining about. Granted I have a 2009 eight core previous generation Mac Pro on adsl at the time but it was tedious
